These days it is incumbent upon us all to build a sustainable society that uses the finite resources of our planet in an effective way. In accordance with its basic view that "used products are not forms of waste but are actually valuable resources," Fuji Xerox has carried out a resource recycling system (product recycling) to fulfill its social responsibility to reduce environmental burdens throughout the life cycles of its products.

This system is composed of three concepts, with the main concept being the Closed-Loop System, where used products are effectively used as resources. The other two concepts include Inverse Manufacturing, which aims to create products under the premise of reusing parts in order to minimize environmental impact, and Zero Emissions, where parts that cannot be reused are separated and recycled to be utilized again as new materials.

The basic concept of the closed-loop system is "to collect products which were released on the market; make use of collected products exhaustively; minimize adoption of new resources and circulate parts in a closed loop."

Inverse Manufacturing is composed of the following 4 steps: life cycle planning; reuse/recycling design; environmental impact assessment; and closed-loop system. The closed-loop system, which serves as the foundation of the Integrated Recycling System, is based on the fundamental concept of "circulating parts in a closed loop" and places utmost priority on the reuse of parts.

In order to realize this, "life cycle planning" is implemented from the planning stage of new products, under the premise that parts will be reused.

We are also taking steps toward a "reuse/recycling design" in order to expand the number of parts that can be reused.

In addition, by implementing the"environmental impact assessment," we are aiming to create products that have as little environmental impact as possible.

"Zero emissions" is an activity directed towards producing zero waste. Here, top priority is given to reusing parts, based on the fundamental concept of the closed loop system.

Parts that cannot be reused are recycled after being sorted in detail into a maximum of 44 different categories of parts during the recycling process. Even glass and rubber, which had low recycling rates in the past, are now being reused as materials.

Furthermore, through joint development with a materials manufacturer, we became the first in the industry to offer technology that can create recycled plastic materials that have the same level of quality as newly made plastic.

The Integrated Recycling System of Fuji Xerox makes the most of used resources to minimize the use of new resources and realize zero production of waste.
