Win Energy Conservation Prize for Their New Energy-Saving Technologies
First in the Industry to Win 10 Consecutive Years

TOKYO, February 10, 2009 – Fuji Xerox's digital color multifunction device lineup, ApeosPort-III and the DocuCentre-III C2200 / C3300 / C2205 / C3305 series, as well as DocuPrint C2250 / C3360Note 1 color printers won the Director General Prize of Agency of Natural Resources and Energy in the 19th Energy Conservation Grand Prize for 2008 (energy-saving machines and systems category) presented by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan. Since first winning this award with its digital color multifunction device DocuColor 1250 series in 1999, Fuji Xerox has become the first in the industry to receive the award for ten consecutive years. |

The award-winning products lineup incorporates the latest energy saving technologies. Equipped with the newly-developed Power Supply Control ASIC, which enables the network communication function of the product with the CPU powered off, the energy-saving controller requires less than two wattsNote 2 of power when in sleep mode, reducing energy consumption by 80 percent over the previous model.Note 3 Also achieving a reduction of 73 percent in Typical Electric Consumption (TEC)Note 4, power consumption level to comply with the International Energy Star Program standard, these products' energy-saving performance leads the industry. In addition, by employing LED printheads, which use light emitting diodes (LED) as the light source, power consumption of the exposure device has been reduced by 45 percent. |

Furthermore, efforts are also being made to save energy in the manufacturing process through the use of biomass plasticsNote 5 that comprise more than 30 percent of plant (corn)-derived constituent by weight. Using this plastic in integral covers for drum cartridges, Fuji Xerox reduced CO2 emissions during the manufacturing process by at least 16 percentNote 6 compared with using conventional (ABS resin) plastics. |

Aiming at contributing to global warming prevention, Fuji Xerox established the long-range power saving plan in 1997, which called for cutting the electric power consumption of its devices in half by 2005, and accelerated its R&D efforts in energy-saving technologies. As more than 50 percent of the environmental burden throughout the entire product life cycle comes from the electric power consumed by customers, Fuji Xerox has been concentrating on making its products much better at conserving energy. Unceasing efforts to achieve further improvements by focusing on fusing technology, which is key to save energy, and combining it with the company's original technologies led Fuji Xerox to receiving the Energy Conservation Prizes in all products areas, from low-speed to high-speed, as well as monochrome and color (See Fig. 1). |

While the number of Fuji Xerox copy and multifunction devices in operation throughout Japan increased by approximately 44 percent from 1997 to 2007, a reduction of 45 percent in power consumption per device was achieved through improvements in energy-saving technologies, resulting in a 21 percent reduction in total power consumption at consumers (See Fig. 2). In terms of CO2 emissions, this outcome is equivalent to a total of 470,000 tons of CO2 reduction over the period from 1997 to 2007. |
