Social Contribution Relating With Our Core Business/Environment / Art By Xerox

Supporting the Artistic Activities of Young Artists

As a philanthropic project with deep relations to business, "Art By Xerox (ABX)" supports the artistic activities of young artists by providing Fuji Xerox's xerography technology as a method for artistic expression.

These activities began in 1990, under the theme of "A Fusion of Art and Technology," when we established an "Art Kobo" (art workshop) equipped with copy machines and printers that artists could use free of charge. Artists can also produce artwork, artwork catalogs, and artist books (art in the form of books) in this workshop using xerography technology.

We also create large displays for exhibitions in museums and galleries, and host the "Jugemu" Exhibition (since 1995) to provide an opportunity for presenting works of art. In addition, we also try to educate the public about art, by forming the "ABX Fan Club," which is composed of Fuji Xerox employees as well as members of the general public who enjoy art.

Performance and Future Perspectives

In 2006, we hosted 9 personal exhibitions for artists who are members of ABX in the "Art by Xerox" gallery. We also support 30 production projects (as of February 2007) mainly by young artists. In November, at the personal exhibition for Akihiro Watabiki, we hosted an art workshop where children and their parents could interact with modern art, as a new experiment and with the cooperation of artists and volunteers from the ABX Fan Club. 10 families, or a total of 32 people, participated in this workshop.

As for future prospects, we plan on participating in art events mainly in the Roppongi area, where art museums such as the New National Art Center, Mori Art Museum, and Suntory Museum of Art are concentrated. Also, in addition to putting more efforts into PR activities to make ABX more broadly known both inside and outside of the company, we plan on hosting events utilizing our wood-block print collections, holding art events within our company that employees can easily participate in, and strengthening our ties with external philanthropic activities. By making the activities of the ABX Fan Club more active, we also plan on expanding the number of people participating in volunteer activities for ABX, as well as people who actively appreciate modern art.
