The United Nations Global Compact

Our Perspectines on the UN Global Compact

Fuji Xerox endorsed the idea of the UN Global Compact advocated by the United Nations. Our Then President Arima signed it in July 2002. TadahitoYamamoto, who became the president of Fuji Xerox in 2007, strongly commits himself to it as well. We regard the UN Global Compact as the common sense of value for Fuji Xerox and its affiliated companies to promote CSR positively. It is reflected as a mental prop in the Employee's Code of Conduct which was introduced in 2007.
When we carry out ethical procurement activities and ask our suppriers for cooperation, we utilize on the philosophy of the UN Global Compact as a powerful source of support.
Furthermore, we use it to grasp the changing trends of CSR in the world.
We began to cooperate actively with the Japan Network for reinforcement and promotion of the UN Global Compact in August 2007, realizing that it is an effective platform for many companies to promote CSR together.

Under the UN Global Compact, companies voluntarily proclaim to comply with 10 globally accepted principles in four areas ─ human rights, labor standards, environment, and anti-corruption.

Cooperation With the Reinforcement of the UN Global Compact Japan Network

In FY 2007, Fuji Xerox cooperated with the steering committee of the UN Global Compact Japan Network as well as CSR expects to change the administration system of the Japan Network for invigoration of the UN Global Compact in Japan.
Since there was no full-time secretariat in Japan Network, it was limited in providing attractive activities for the companies or managers who have participated in the UN Global Compact. Therefore, the UN Global Compact Board Japan was established in April 2008 with a full-time secretariat to provide an effective activity platform for the executives. Furthermore, we started our activities from June with the establishment of three subcommittees in the fields of global warming prevention, supply chain in Asia, and case studies of CSR activities, which the member companies are extremely interested in.
Arima, executive corporate advisor of Fuji Xerox, was appointed as the first chairman of the board at the 1st Global Compact Board Japan Meeting.
With the establishment of the new system that company managers play a key role to carry out activities, the United Nations Headquarters is expecting much more of us. Secretary-General Ban-Ki-Moon spoke at the Welcome Reception hosted by the UN Global Compact Board Japan during his visit to Japan in June that the world faces three crises: food shortage, climate change and the Africa development challenge. The support and cooperation extended by the leaders of the economic world is indispensable to resolve these problems. Cooperation among political world, economic world and civic communities becomes very important. He also expressed his expectation to the Japanese business circle who has accomplished significant innovation in the field of environment.

Fuji Xerox will be an active member of “the Asian supply chain subcommittee” in the UN Global Compact Japan Network, while Executive Corporate Advisor Arima continues to be active as the chairman of the UN Global Compact Board Japan.
Furthermore, we are going to reinforce the activities to convey the UN Global Compact philosophies to Fuji Xerox and our affiliated companies.
