Children and youth have bright future. However, they also face more challenging and serious social problems. Thus, they need to possess broad knowledge and high level of awareness towards the society. Fuji Xerox supports the future generations by continuously offering our original programs and supporting organizations with meaningful educational activities.
The relationship between Japan and various Asian countries is not only an economic one, but it also demonstrates depth through its development in a broad range of areas, such as politics, society, and culture. The scope of social contribution activities by Fuji Xerox, including affiliates, extends over the Asia-Pacific region, where continuous support is provided, mainly in areas such as educational development and academic research.

The Setsutaro Kobayashi Memorial Fund is an independent foundation Fuji Xerox set up to support young researchers in the field of humanities and social sciences who are conducting research on Japan and the Asia/Oceania region. The foundation was established in 1977 in commemoration of the achievements of the late Setsutaro Kobayashi, the first president of Fuji Xerox, in order to contribute to promote mutual understanding and friendship through academic exchanges between Japan and the Asia/Oceania region. At present, the foundation is implementing the following two programs.

The acceptance of applications for scholarships under this program began in 1984. Scholarships are granted to young researchers from Asia/Oceania region enrolled in doctoral courses in the humanities or social sciences at the graduate-school level in Japan. In FY2007, the foundation offered scholarships to 40students from 9 countries and regions. Scholarships granted to 877 students from 21 countries and regions during the past 24 years total approximately 730 million yen.
In FY2008, the foundation decides to offer scholarships to 40 students from 9 countries and regions of 37.36 million yen. The total amount of scholarships during 25 years becomes 780 million yen. |

The Kobayashi Fellowship Program, launched in 1996, is intended for young Japanese students involved in research on Asia/Oceania countries and regions at the doctoral level in the humanities or social sciences. In FY2007, the foundation offered scholarships for 10 researchers. Scholarships totaling approximately 128 million yen have been granted to 124 researchers over the past 12 years. In addition, the number of the countries for researching rises to 25 countries. In FY2008, the foundation decides to offer scholarships to 10 students of 9.87million yen. The total amount of scholarships during 13 years becomes 135 million yen.
Fuji Xerox also supports the publication of memoir article that took these scholarships and meets donation request of domestic and oversea research organizations positively.
In recent years, we aim at the further development of academic exchanges / the mutual understanding that have emerged from the Kobayashi fund and support for network formation of the people (587 foreign students, 112 Japanese students) of OB and OG who received the scholarships before. So far, gatherings were held in Beijing, Shanghai and Seoul. Aiming at further expansion and deepening of network, the symposium was held by the people of Korean OB and OG in Seoul, on Mar. 29th, 2008.

Fuji Xerox supports Junior Achievement, the world's largest NPO for economic education, which was established in the United States in 1919. The organization provides schools with educational materials and programs free of charge, with the aim of helping young people understand how society and the economy work so that they can make career choices and future plans on the basis of firm intentions.
Fuji Xerox provides facilities and supports creation of educational materials from 1995, when the Japanese headquarters was established for Junior Achievement. Fuji Xerox hosts a shop called “Fuji Xerox Color Print Service Shop” at Student City, an experiential program run in Tokyo and Kyoto for elementary school students, with booths in which they can gain hands-on experience of printing services using our company's multifunction devices. Moreover, Fuji Xerox employees participate as volunteer assistants to supportits operation.
