Reduction of Water Consumption at Business Facilities

Policy to Reduce Water Consumption in Our Business Activities

Water is a precious resource.Fuji Xerox is pushing ahead reduction of water consumption aiming to reduce more than 20% of water consumption by FY2009 compared to the total water used in FY2005 in all development and production facilities of Fuji Xerox and its affiliates in Japan and overseas.

Achievements in FY 2007

Since we are changing the production method from “crush method”, which uses water abundantly to “polymerism method”, (EA toner) which uses less water in process of toner manufacturing where most water consumption occurs, water consumption during the process of toner manufacturing is expected to decrease. In The Takematsu Center with much consumption of water, we achieved a large reduction through saving the water used for air-conditioner in FY 2006.
Since most of the water used at overseas facilities is for living use, we carried out investigation on not only the volume of water used, but also the breakdown of how water was used at domestic and overseas facilities in FY2007. The total volume of water used in FY2007 was 296 million tons, with a reduction of 20% against FY2005.

Changes in Water Consumption

Future Direction

We are going to create reduction measures and implement them at all of our business facilities based on identification of the real situation of water consumption in Japan and overseas precisely in FY2008 to achieve our target by FY2009.
