- *1: 3R: An initiative to Reduce resource consumption, then repeatedly Reuse whatever that can be reused, and when it becomes unable to be reused anymore, Recycle it as raw material.
- *2: FSC certification: A certification program by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), which was established in 1993, to eliminate environmental destruction caused by illegal deforestation and trading and to protect the forests while securing stable lumber supply.
- *3: RoHS: An EU directive on the Restriction of Hazardous Substances. This directive took effect on July 1, 2006, restricting the use of six substance groups (i.e. Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent chromium, Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE)) in the manufacturing of electronic and electrical equipments marketed in the EU.
- *4: REACH: Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals. This EU environmental regulation addressing chemicals came into force in June 2007. It requires all companies manufacturing or importing chemical substances into the EU in quantities of one tonne or more per year, to register these substances with the European Chemicals Agency for examination on the potential impacts on human health and the environment.
- *5: VOC: Volatile Organic Compounds emitted during manufacturing processes. Fuji Xerox strives to reduce the 20 substances specified by the 4 industry associations (including the 7 substances subject to the Law concerning Pollutant Release and Transfer Register).
