Q&A

Q1. What are your current roles and responsibilities?

I'm currently involved in implementing the in-house logistics system at Fuji Xerox Hai Phong, which began operation in November 2013 as a new manufacturing base in Vietnam. In line with the production innovation principles of Fuji Xerox, I design a system that handles every phase of the logistics chain from the reception of parts to the production of goods. I also design a production management system that governs production planning, manufacturing process planning, and logistics planning. This system is intended for developing an effective logistics channel and preventing the mix-up of parts. At Fuji Xerox Hai Phong, we work together with local team members to create various things from scratch, such as work procedure manuals and production lines. Due to the language barrier, it is difficult to train local staff. However, the staff in Haiphong (including both leaders and workers) works very hard to learn new skills and knowledge. Although many problems remain to be addressed, I'm working with the local staff in setting up a stable production system at Fuji Xerox Hai Phong as soon as possible, so that it can serve as a key manufacturing hub in Asia.

Q2. What do you keep in mind while at work?

"Being a good listener" and "connecting suppliers with the manufacturing site and other departments"

In the past, I often approached my work based on the wrong assumption and ended up wasting time. The scope of production work is so large that you cannot get anything done with limited knowledge. Therefore, I try to listen to the advice of others while developing my own hypothesis, and then correct that hypothesis based on advice in order to achieve a better result. On a different note, the suppliers, manufacturing site, and other departments including logistics and marketing have a vested stake in one another. So, I also try to act as a go-between for them so that they may cultivate a good relationship. Specifically, I strive to understand their needs and provide correct information to each side. In addition, I always try to communicate well with the local staff because it may take time to determine the cause of trouble overseas due to cultural differences.

Q3. What do you think is the value of technology?

Our products are made by integrating technologies in various fields such as research, development, and production. The production staff has the role of releasing these technologies to the market in the best possible way. To that end, all members of the production department need to work with the same spirit. I hope that we can supply products from Fuji Xerox Hai Phong to customers around the world as soon as possible. I also hope that we can manufacture products that satisfy our customers, so that they can benefit from the advanced technology of Fuji Xerox.

Q4. What do you like to do to relax or relieve stress?

Since my daughter was born, spending time with her has been the best way to relieve stress. Her smile blows my worries and makes me happy. Another way to relieve stress is to play soccer or futsal with colleagues and friends. Exercising refreshes both my mind and body. Drinking or going out with my colleagues is also another way to relax.

One Day - a day in my workweek (when in Vietnam on a business trip)

6:00 a.m.

I wake up. After having breakfast, I go to work by taking the hotel shuttle bus. It takes about 30 minutes to get to the office.
8:00 a.m. I arrive at work. I check my email and then confirm the day's work schedule with the local staff.
In the morning Along with the local staff, I implement improvement measures provided in a plan.
12:00 p.m. I eat lunch with the staff of Fuji Xerox Hai Phong at the cafeteria.
In the afternoon I give advice to the local staff on how to prepare various plans regarding product manufacturing. I also hold a meeting and work on improvement activities. Moreover, I cope with any irregular events that may occur.
5:00 p.m.-
8:00 p.m.
I leave the office. I get to the hotel by hotel shuttle bus or taxi. I usually have dinner at a food stall.
