ApeosWare Management Suite

Fuji Xerox provides its "ApeosWare Management Suite" of integrated software consisting of several software supports for managing and operating multifunction devices and printers. In addition to offering functions for "device management," "user management," "log management," "print management," and "flow management" as standalone applications, ApeosWare Management Suite also provides value as integrated software providing these functions.

The ApeosWare Management Suite system is composed of multiple components. Based on the six system requirements listed in Table 1, we have developed platforms of common components that can be used across every product (five products) included in the system, thereby making the components applicable to other systems. As a result, we have successfully improved both the linkage with other software and system operability.

Table 1: System Requirements of ApeosWare Management Suite
Category System Requirement
1. Scalability The system shall be able to support a wide range of environments from a work group with five multifunction devices to an enterprise with a hundred or more devices.
2. Adaptability System customization and addition, deletion, and update of the functions shall be easily performed.
3. Authentication / User management Integrated authentication and user management shall be supported.
4. Security The system shall support the use of a common security policy and modification of that policy in accordance with system scalability.
5. Internationalization The system shall provide software that is suitable for each market (domestic and overseas).
6. Operability The operability shall be the same among the different types of software.

The architecture of ApeosWare Management Suite is broadly comprised of three layers as shown in Fig. 1. The "1. Platform" layer is placed at the bottom, with the "2. Common Components of ApeosWare Management Suite" layer in the middle, and the "3. Each product (service)" layer on top.

Fig. 1: ApeosWare Management Suite Architecture

1. Platform (PF)

There are broadly two types of platforms. One is the common PF- set of components that can be used across every product including related products.Note1 The other is the product PF- set of components that can be used for related products. A typical component of the common PF is Identity Management. Identity Management is our common authentication infrastructure that fulfills system requirement 3, "Authentication / User management," in Table 1. The product PF is composed of "device management PF," "deliver PF," and "flow PF."

Note1
Related products: products other than ApeosWare Management Suite that have similar functions but a different purpose of use

2. Common Components of ApeosWare Management Suite

The common components of ApeosWare Management Suite are a set of components that can be used across the original functions of the ApeosWare Management Suite system. The main common components are the WebUI framework that supports the creation of WebUI, Update Service that supports the version upgrade of ApeosWare Management Suite, data protection module for ensuring security, and Basic Device Management that manages device groups, monitors the status of devices, and configures user settings such as the settings of folders, user information, and a list of recipients.

3. Each Product (Service)

Each function of "device management," "user management," "log management," "print management," and "flow management" is provided by the following five software supports: ApeosWare Device Management, ApeosWare Authentication Management, ApeosWare Log Management, ApeosWare Print Management, and ApeosWare Flow Management.
