Considering Speed Limit According to Droplet Placement for Continuous Feed Inkjet Printing

Inkjet technology has recently been introduced to the area of high-speed continuous feed printers. The paper feeding speed of the FUJI XEROX 2800 Inkjet Color Continuous Feed Printing System is 200 meters per minute. Among the elements for achieving high speed in inkjet printers is to form uniform dots by the stable jetting of ink droplets. However, the airflow generated between the print head and paper at high-speed paper feed operation is assumed to have negative effects on achieving high image quality. Therefore, we studied the motion of fine droplets when paper is fed at a speed exceeding 200 meters per minute by using 2800ICCFPS and a high-speed printing bench created for this study, and also made the relevant calculations to consider the paper feeding speed limit in high speed printing. As a result, it was clarified that the paper feeding speed limit in high speed printing is affected more by the displacement of ink due to a difference in drop velocity than by the airflow generated when paper is fed.
