The Classwork Assist Box: A Solution, Developed through Customer Co-creation, Linking Paper and LMSs

In recent years, as many education and research institutions have adopted systems that use information and communication technology, learning management systems (LMSs) and e-Portfolios have grown popular. However, one problem which has come to light is that after the introduction of these systems, the number of teachers who actually use them tends to reach a plateau. To address this problem, we developed the Classwork Assist Box with Hosei University using customer co-creation development. By utilizing a multifunction printer, this appliance product allows the paper media used in classes to be effectively used in combination with an LMS, thus reducing the workload of teachers while at the same time increasing students' motivation to learn. This paper explains the background of the commercialization of the Classwork Assist Box, its benefits, the field tests we conducted in cooperation with Hosei University, and the technologies that were later developed and added during the commercialization process.
