An Audio Guide Service That Can Be Created Together with Local Communities

Fuji Xerox launched an audio guide service in 2013. In this service, the location of a tourist is identified using GPS installed in a smartphone, and audio guide content is played automatically on the smartphone when the user approaches a predetermined touristic site. In addition to this service, we also provide a web application with which local people can easily create content for the audio guide. Since we started this service, we have extracted four important user needs through discussion with our partners such as local governments and tourist associations. In order to meet these needs, we developed SkyDesk Media Trek as well as the Tokyo Waterfront City Multilingual Guide Service. This paper describes the four user needs that we became aware of while providing the service and gives an overview and examples of SkyDesk Media Trek and the Tokyo Waterfront City Multilingual Guide Service.
