Paper Fingerprint Recognition Technology

A technology to identify each paper sheet by using the pattern of paper fibers.

  • Paper is produced using wood pulp as its raw material. It is composed of fine fibers entangling with each other. These entangling patterns of natural fibers are random, and the possibility of possessing identical fiber pattern is considered to be very low.
  • Taking advantage of this characteristic, we developed a technology to identify each paper sheet.
  • Optically read random patterns of paper fibers with a camera etc. The obtained image is processed and the resulting data are registered into a database etc. Scanning again the paper you want to identify and matching it with the registered patters allows you to identify each paper sheet with high accuracy.
  • The pattern of paper fibers does not crumble even if a paper sheet is folded to some extent. Also, it rarely changes over time. Therefore, this system is highly durable.
  • We consider that this technology can be utilized for managing confidential documents and preventing contracts, certificates, and tickets from being forged.

Applications: management of confidential documents,
and forgery prevention of certificates, tickets, ID card etc.
