March 3, 2015

TOKYO, March 3, 2015 - SkyDesk Media Trek,Note1 a touristic audio guide app for smartphones provided by Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. has been adopted as the official audio guide for the Saga Arashiyama Tour in Kyoto, established by the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu Cultrual FoundationNote2 under the project to support creative activities in art galleries and museums organized by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. The tour will officially start on March 8.

SkyDesk Media Trek is a cloud service that delivers audio guide contents linked to a global positioning system (GPS) through individuals' smartphones. The Saga Arashiyama Tour offers the audio guide for free for tourists so they can visit approximately 100 sights related to the poems by one hundred famous Japanese historical poets (Ogura Hyakunin Isshu)-including its major facility, the Shigureden.

The contents of the audio guide were created by students studying under Professor Kazuhiko Kobayashi of the Faculty of Cultural Studies, Kyoto Sangyo University, as a part of their curriculum. Full of unique information and historical background, the guide offers much more than can be found in commercial guidebooks. This is a project to encourage a wider audience to experience the attractive places of Kyoto through a local collaboration between the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu Cultural Foundation and the literature students who are keen to contribute to the local community.

With an eye on further invigorating the local area by attracting more overseas visitors, the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu Cultural Foundation is planning to provide the guide in English.

In the Document Services and Communications field, Fuji Xerox continues to expand its business not only by providing solutions to individual companies but also by offering a new communication environment to local governments and communities.
