Reducing Environmental Impact in Our Business Activities
Efforts to Mitigate Global Warming
Fuji Xerox is working on the reduction of CO2 emissions that cause global warming, recognizing that increased incidence of abnormal weather conditions, the spread of infectious diseases, and rise in energy prices brought about by global warming not only threatens the sustainability of our society, but will also have major consequences on the continuity of our business operations.
Efforts at Production and Development Sites
In fiscal2014, we met our emissions goal of 135 kt-CO2 or less (2005 emission levels Note 1), recording actual emissions of 126 kt-CO2. Several factors accounted for this success. Since the Great East Japan Earthquake, we have continually sought to cut electricity use by 15% or more YOY. Furthermore, in addition to introduction of energy-conserving equipment, we achieved the efficiency of manufacturing processes. These initiatives led to a slight decrease of emissions from last year. For fiscal 2015, we are targeting CO2 emissions below fiscal 2005 figures through additional efforts, including the introduction of energy-conserving equipment at development sites and manufacturing process reviews, alongside other efforts. We will also develop energy-conserving manufacturing technologies and consider introducing these into our manufacturing processes. Through these and other efforts, we will strengthen our activities with the mid- to long-range perspective in mind.

Efforts in Offices
With fiscal 2007 levels set as baseline figures, our goal is to reduce absolute CO2 emissions by 1% every year at the offices of our sales, services, and administrative sections in Japan and in overseas sales companies. In fiscal 2014, our activities included continuation of activities to conserve power consumed for air-conditioning and lighting, eco-driving efforts, and the Cool Biz summer dress code. However, because of the acquisition of overseas affiliates and other such issues, the total emission was 64 kt-CO2, thus failing to achieve our target (55 kt-CO2).
In fiscal 2015, We will achieve reductions exceeding current trends, we will explore various mid- to long-range measures, including reforming work modes, adopting renewable energy, and introducing more energy-efficient equipment.

Initiatives at Logistics
In the area of logistics, Fuji Xerox investigates how to reduce CO2 emissions in its transportation methods with the aim of meeting Fuji Xerox's 2020 greenhouse gases reduction targets.
Specific activities included improving logistic networks to increase transport efficiency and shorten transportation distances and expanding eco-driving activities to truck transport, as well as reducing the amount of transport by air. As a result, CO2 emissions for fiscal 2014 were 207 kt-CO2, which achieved our target. In fiscal 2015, we will continue to curb CO2 emissions by continuing the activities stated above.
For further reduction of greenhouse gases, Fuji Xerox is investing in overseas projects for GHG reduction under the Kyoto Mechanism, introducing wind power generation, and promoting efficient use of electric power through the use of NAS batteries and ice thermal storage system.
Examples of activities based on the Kyoto Mechanism include investments made through the Japan GHG Reduction Fund (JGRF), with which we concluded an investment contract in 2004, related to hydroelectric power generation in China, a wind power plant in Bulgaria, a methane gas recovery project in Malaysia, the SJAMG coalbed methane recovery and power generation project in China, and other projects.
Efforts to Conserve Natural Resources
Waste Reduction at Development and Manufacturing Centers
Total waste generated in fiscal 2014 fell to 8.6 kt, 0.3 kt below the figure for the previous year. We targeted various productivity improvements both in and outside of Japan as part of efforts to reduce waste per production volume. We also moved forward with production process improvements and efforts to recycle waste into valuable materials. With the goal of achieving further reductions, these efforts will continue in fiscal 2015.

Waste Management at Offices
Fuji Xerox conducts appropriate waste management at offices (non-production facilities), just as we do at our production facilities, for the effective utilization of resources used in our business.
At domestic office facilities, we digitized the manifests (industrial waste management surveys), and are furthering our efforts to improve the compliance level of our industrial waste management.
At our office facilities overseas, we make sure that waste management is in accordance to the various country's laws and regulations and is appropriate to the local infrastructure. We will continue to make sure waste management is conducted with compliance as a premise.
Activities to Reduce Use of Packaging Materials in Logistics
As part of our efforts toward conservation, we are promoting the returning and recycling of packaging materials used during transport of our products.
Since fiscal 2012, we have worked to limit the use of packaging materials to less than 17,000 tons by using durable returnable containers and through other efforts.
In addition to continuing to expand the range of products that can be transported using returnable packaging, future activities will explore systems that make practical use of recycled and reused packaging.
Reducing the Water Used at Production Stages
The production stages account for most of the water used by Fuji Xerox. Since 2009, we have sought to reduce water use at production sites in Japan and around the world.
In fiscal 2014, these sites achieved 45% reductions relative to fiscal 2005, surpassing the target of 30% reductions. In addition to exceeding targets for the fiscal year, the results easily met the medium-range target, set for 2014, of 30% reductions relative to fiscal 2005.
In fiscal 2015,while maintaining our target (30% below the fiscal 2005 level), we will strive for a further year-on-year reduction in water usage. At the same time, we will consider our options with regard to new domestic and international indicators of water use, such as the "water footprint."
Water Used in Production Processes
Mitigating the Risks Posed by On-site Chemical Substances
We are striving to reduce the risk of accidents and disasters associated with the chemicals handled at sites and to manage and reduce emissions of chemicals, including volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and substances subject to the Law concerning Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (PRTR Act). In fiscal 2014, in order to be sure to be in compliance with the ever-increasing laws and regulations, we revised the Fuji Xerox Chemical Substances Management Rules, and we newly implemented the same chemical substance management system as the one used by Fujifilm, with expanded functions. Moreover, the risk assessment methods as established by the Chemical Substance Management Rules have been revised so that they have a higher margin of safety in complying with the laws.
In fiscal 2015, we will implement this chemical substance management system to locations both in and outside of Japan, and will promote the use of the revised management rules to strengthen our risk management capabilities toward chemical substances.
Air Pollution Prevention
In fiscal 2014, we voluntarily reduced air emissions of 20 types of VOC identified by four electrical/electronic industry organizations, including JBMIA (Japan Business Machine and Information System Industries Association). With the increase of production, VOC emissions have increased from last year. In fiscal 2015, we will reconsider the emission reduction policy and the implementation plan, in light of anticipated future trends of domestic and international regulations.

Removal of Asbestos
Fuji Xerox is continuing its efforts to take appropriate measures to reduce the risk of exposure to asbestos, such as taking steps to remove it or prevent its dispersion.
Storage and Appropriate Management of PCBs
Three development and production sites handle the storage and management of PCBs and appliances containing PCBs. Preparations are currently underway to dispose of PCBs in accordance with laws governing the disposal of PCBs. We will subcontract this work as soon as authorities have approved the disposal procedures.

Preserving Ecosystems and Biodiversity
Recognizing the value of biodiversity, Fuji Xerox seeks to reduce the environmental impact of its business activities while striving to preserve our natural surroundings and strengthening employee awareness through various social engagement activities.
For example, we require all suppliers of copier paper to ensure legal and regulatory compliance and to take steps to eliminate any repercussions from timber harvest on the ecosystem and the local population. This is among the requirements set forth in our Environmental, Health and Safety Rules for Paper Procurement. In this and other ways, our purchasing activities take proper account of biodiversity issues. In ethical procurement activities with parts suppliers underway since fiscal 2007, we have sought to stimulate interest in biodiversity in several ways, including guidelines stressing the importance of conserving the natural environment. In addition to activities like these intended to reduce the impact of our business activities, we strive to promote employee awareness through nature preservation efforts in the mountains ("satoyama") and through our Workshops for Nature Guides, undertaken jointly with the Nature Conservation Society of Japan. We also participate in the Japan Business Initiative for Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity (JBIB), a project established in 2008, to help enhance these initiatives. By reviewing advanced case studies and by examining various approaches and methods to strengthen corporate biodiversity efforts along with other participating companies, we are applying the results of these studies to advance our own efforts.
With regards to the effects on ecosystems and the biodiversity of the land at our business sites, we are preparing guidelines for efforts designed to preserve biodiversity at our sites. This effort addresses the effects on ecosystems and biodiversity of soil use at business sites. We will continue to prepare these guidelines in fiscal 2014, with the goal of completing them during the year.
