Image Processing Technologies to Enhance the Value of Digital Printing that Realizes, Controls and Maintains High Image Quality

Fuji Xerox first applied VCSEL-ROS to the DocuColor 1256GA in 2003. VCSEL-ROS is a scanning-type light exposure system that realizes 2400 dpi resolution, and has been installed in our digital printers since 2003. The digital printing market requires high image quality comparable to that of offset printing, as well as the control and maintenance of image quality. In response to such demands, we have employed digital screen technology, image enhancement technology, and edge enhancement technology. As a new approach to controlling and maintaining image quality, we developed an in-line image sensor that automates image adjustments and installed it in the Color 1000 Press launched in 2010. We also designed a system to inspect image defects for product management and applied it to the Versant 2100 Press launched in 2014. This paper describes these image processing technologies, auto calibration technologies, and other technologies used to control and maintain high image quality.
